Andrew Gunther
Environmental Science, Policy & Communication Management
Dr. Gunther received his Ph.D. in Energy and Resources from the University of California at Berkeley in 1987, and he has worked at the intersection of environmental science and management since 1979.
He has extensive experience in applying science to the development of air, water, and endangered species policy.
He served as Assistant Chief Scientist for the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Restoration Program, and he was the first manager of the State of California’s program that monitors for toxic substances in San Francisco Bay
For the past several years, Andy has been working with a broad array of organizations to help prepare the San Francisco Bay Area for a changing climate. This includes presentations on this topic to a wide array of civic, religious, business and professional organizations.
In 2020, he was appointed by California Governor Gavin Newsom to the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board. He also serves on the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Concerned Scientists.
