
Bill Scarth
Professor Emeritus Economics Department McMaster University
Bill Scarth is Professor Emeritus in the Economics Department at McMaster, where he taught and conducted research for 44 years (with a number of sabbatical appointments at other universities along the way).
He received the President’s Award for Excellence in Instruction and several McMaster Students Union Teaching Awards including the MSU’s highest honour – their Lifetime Achievement Award for Teaching.
In addition to publishing many articles in academic journals (in the areas of macroeconomics, labour economics, international trade and public finance), Bill has authored four textbooks (two co-authored with colleagues from Princeton and Harvard), and he has been a Research Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute, Canada’s leading non-profit policy institute, for 30 years.
Bill has been involved with Burlington Third Age Learning on two previous occasions, when he discussed “Monetary and Fiscal Policy” and “Equality and Prosperity: Finding Common Ground.”
