Dr. Lisbie Rae

Dr. Lisbie Rae

In May 2010, Lisbie travelled to Africa with the Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, to attend the African Grandmothers Gathering.  She marched through the streets of Swaziland’s capital with 2000 African grandmothers and their supporters, people on the front lines of the AIDS pandemic.   A life long learner, Lisbie has taught all ages from pre-school to university, finishing her teaching career as a lecturer at the University of Guelph where she taught acting as well as theatre history, theory and criticism.  She teaches yoga since retiring, and practices Thai Massage and Reiki.   Through her work with Hamilton’s Grandmothers of Steel, Lisbie has spoken extensively about African grandmothers as they courageously turn the tide of HIV/AIDS one community at a time.
