Stephen McBride is Professor of Political Science and Canada Research Chair in Public Policy and Globalization at McMaster University where he is also a member of the Institute of Globalization and the Human Condition and an associate member of the School of Labour Studies. He received his PhD from McMaster and taught at Ryerson, Lakehead and Simon Fraser Universities before returning to McMaster in 2010. At Simon Fraser he was Department Chair for eight years and founding Director of the Centre for Global Political Economy. He has published widely on issues of global and Canadian political economy and public policy. His book Not Working:  State, Unemployment and Neo Conservatism Canada  won the Canadian Political Science Association’s 1994 Smiley prize for the best book on Canadian politics published in the previous two years.  His most recent books are (with Heather Whiteside) Private Affluence, Public Austerity: Economic Crisis and Democratic Malaise in Canada (Halifax: Fernwood 2011) and (co-edited with Gary Teeple), Relations of Global Power: Neoliberal Order and Disorder ( Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2010).
